KEYSTONE PIPELINE PROTEST
Wednesday, April 17, 2013, 11:30am-12:30pm
Silver Strand Boulevard & Coronado Bay Road, Coronado,CA 92118
Join us for a press conference and protest outside the Loew’s Coronado Bay Resort where the American Petroleum Industry (API), the primary trade association of the oil and gas industry, will be holding its annual Pipeline Conference. We’ll be there to say that climate change demands an end to the fossil fuel industry’s “business as usual” and to call on President Obama to reject the Keystone XL Pipeline. We’ll also draw attention to the recent tar sands spill inArkansas, and the surprising revelation that tar sands are already being brought by train to Los Angeles for refining. The API is made up of nearly 400 members, including ExxonMobil, BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Dow Chemical Company, Halliburton, and Shell Oil. These companies provide funding for API, which in turn champions the industry’s interests in the government and through public outreach. The organization has spent millions on lobbying, advertising, and contributing to climate-denying politicians. Banners, signs, chants, and more. WOSD’s Martha Sullivan will speak.
